What we cover

Seattle asks more questions about mushrooms than almost any city in the country, and most of the answers online are either years out of date or written to sell something without saying so. Mushrooms Seattle exists to give straight, dated answers to the questions people here actually search for:

  • Law: what Seattle's 2021 entheogen resolution does and doesn't do, where Washington state law stands, and what's legal an hour or a state away.
  • Research: what clinical trials and observational studies have found about psilocybin, including microdosing, and how strong that evidence really is.
  • Safety: drug interactions, who should avoid psilocybin, and the deadly lookalikes that grow in the same wood chips as the region's wild species.
  • Local news: council and legislative action, research coming out of Seattle institutions, and the fall mushroom season around Puget Sound.

Editorial policy

Every legal claim on this site links to the primary document behind it: the council resolution, the Revised Code of Washington, the bill page in the Legislature, the state health department. Research claims link to the published study, not to a press release about it. Each guide shows the date it was last checked, and we re-check the legal guides whenever the Legislature is in session.

We don't publish dosing amounts or schedules. Dosing depends on the person, the mushroom and the medications they take, and getting it wrong can hurt someone. For harm-reduction guidance we point readers to organizations that specialize in it, listed on our resources page.

Nothing here is legal or medical advice. Psilocybin is a controlled substance under Washington and federal law, and we say so plainly on every page where it matters.

Ownership and funding

Mushrooms Seattle is published by the team behind My Mushroom Dispensary, a Seattle-based online mushroom shop, which pays for this site. We'd rather you hear that from us than work it out yourself.

Here's what that means in practice. When an article mentions that shop, we label it as our sister shop. The shop doesn't decide what we report about the law, research or safety, and we won't describe anything as legal because it would be convenient for business. If you think a page falls short of that, tell us.

Corrections

Laws in this area change fast, and we'd rather be corrected than be wrong. If you spot an error or an out-of-date fact, email hello@mushroomsseattle.com with the page and, ideally, a source. We fix confirmed errors promptly and update the page's "last checked" date when we do.
